A new approach to student issues ( Reflective summary of the editorial published in Sunday Observer on 19.01.2020)
It is a common knowledge among Sri Lankans that our university students fight for the rights of the nation. So far their problems were not resolved from the authorities. The previous governments repeatedly turned a deaf ear and dispersed the rallies with tear gas. But the rally which held in last week was not stopped and the president Gotabhaya Rajapaksa himself met the students and listened to what they had to say. He even promised to do his best to resolve the problems put forth by the students. Because of this peaceful confrontation, no inconvenience was coursed to the public and hardly no one knew there was a rally. He also opened up opportunities to the university qualified students who were unable to attend the higher studies, and also he said that Rs.50 billion which costs for the students who leave for overseas can be diverted for the development and the welfare.
