A public servant is an elected or appointed member of the government for social or public services. And also he or she has to be a public servant who has not been selected with the help of a politician or any Authorized  Agents. We know that among the period of previous governments, this happened a lot. As every cloud has a silver lining, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is now the President of the Republic, who knows how critical it is to maintain the independence , impartiality and intergrity of the public service while previous administrators shouted-out loud their do's and don'ts; untill they get what they want and after that, all the pledges they made become just boasting words. Now without crying for the spilt milk, we have to think that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has well begun and that can be assured, half is done. He was pledged to appoint persons whith subject knowledge and suitable qualifications to discharge their responsibilities to government state institution...

Today's all the countries around the world have interconnected with the globalization because of the trde and it really important for an island like Sri Lanka as it is situated in the East-West sea route. Since the ancient times, merchants found Sri Lanka as one of the best places to get get spices, gemstones and other riches. As the trade developed worldwide, exporting countries have started to earn duties from exporting products to protect their own industries and some countries which import products, started to earn taxes. This is how the concept of taxes and duties was begun. But if those countries impose the same duty for the products they export and import, both countries lose. As a result of  that; the idea of Free Trade Agreements (FTA) have made. Sri Lanka has made it's first FTAs with India after more than 20 years and it has signed FTAs with several other countries by now. Sometimes FTAs can be disadvantageous to countries with smaller incomes and financial behemoth....

The Sunday Observer reached it's 92nd milestone this week. Roots of this paper goes to February 4th 1834 when it was founded by two Colombo based British traders, G. Ackland and E.J. Darley. Then it was published bi-weekly in 1873.  Then this  paper became the first English Daily News Paper in Ceylon.  D.R.Wijewardene who was the vanguard of the Independence movement purchased the paper in 1923 and  changed the name to Ceylone Observer.After that Sunday Observer was established in 1928 and H.A.J. Hulugalle became its first Sri Lankan editor in 1930. The first task of the Sunday Observer was to support the independence movement which Mr.Wijewardene saw as the core mission for his newspaper. President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has already begun to make our island a wast free country by taking all the posible steps. and he also has taken many adamant steps to put a fullstop to the corruption and wasteful expenditure in the government sector. This would even reduce the revenue to the government due to the subsidy paid to the public and industry. 'It is not the whistle that moves the train.' The Previous leaders' actions reminds us this saying. In the past five years the government has been paying Rs.23 million per month to a private company to rent a building in Rajagiriya to house the offices of the Agriculture Ministry while already having a well facilitated office building for the Ministry in Palawatte. This undehand transaction has funneled government funds into a private company. It is a common knowledge among  Sri Lankans that our university students fight for the rights of the nation. So far their problems were not resolved from the authorities. The previous  governments repeatedly turned a deaf ear and dispersed the rallies with tear gas. But the rally which held in last week was not stopped and the president Gotabhaya Rajapaksa himself met the students and listened to what they had to say. He even promised to do his best to resolve the problems put forth by the students. Because of this peaceful confrontation, no inconvenience was coursed to the public and hardly no one knew there was a rally. He also opened up opportunities to the university qualified students who were unable to attend the higher studies, and also he said that Rs.50 billion which costs for the students who leave for overseas can be diverted for the development and the welfare. President Gotabhaya rajapakshe's policy statement delivered in parliment on friday consist of his visions of prosperity and splender in undertaking to develop the politics based agendas that have brought divisions in our society in the past. He has stated that developing our human capital as one of the primary responsibilities of the government and it is our most valuable resourse as a nation. He further says that by developing modern methodologies and indicators to find whether the needs of the people are truly being met will ensure that the benigits of development reach every group of people. A call for a thorough inquiry (Reflective summary of the editorial published in Sunday Observer on 5.01.2020)

The tapes of recorded conversations between UNP parlimentarian Ranjan Ramanayake and many individuals including judges, politicians, the police clearly shows how corrupt the judicial system has been. The tapes confirmed what was suspected by the people of this nation. Every single person  who unwittingly incriminated themselves should be subjected to investigation and duly punished. Still it is not clear why he recorded all this conversations as it is unethical and to record without the consent of the other party. There is obviously a lot of political fall-outs. The best thing to come out of all this is the urgent need to reform judivial system. This includes among other things mechanisms to ensure that politician criminals are kept separate this matter brought out and urgent need to script back integrity and ethics into the justice system.
